I had the same thing happen to me last October. I lived at the same place
for 8 years and the landlord threw me out..."so that she could move in".
Of course the main reason was she wanted to double the rate...
I did a little digging into the rent control laws of San Francisco, and
your landlord cannot throw you out if there is another apartment in your
building which is available and is of the same size. If there is, then they
have to take that one. My guess is that your apt building is currently
full, so throw that one out...
Also the landlord cannot rent it out to anyone else except to immediate family
for one year. If they rent it out prior to one year you can go after them.
