Thank you for sharing your story. I move into the city tomorrow for the
first time. I'm extremely excited to live in the most beautiful city in
the world. My main motivation....my rent went from $625 to $775 in the
course of a year and a half (a one bedroom apt in Mtn View). Outside of
SF, there IS no rent control. Which means the rents are skyrocketing.
People don't dare move, complain or draw any attention for fear of a
rent increase. I was hoping living in the city I would be safe from the
"rent rape" that is occuring elsewhere in the bay area. I'm saddened by
your story.
Don't they have any common decency? Landlords refinance to a lower
interest rate and then crank up the rent. I guess it's their way of
keeping us renters out of the housing market and forever in the cycle of
paying them for a place to live.
Good luck in your case and look forward to hearing the outcome.
Sid
