I as well have experienced a huge act of bad faith from my former
landlords and am currently looking for a decent place to live and a
lawyer. My landlords didn't pull the OMI eviction on me though, they
told me that they were going to do some cleaning and small repairs to
my apartment and needed me to move out for 5 days. Those 5 days took
place over Labor Day weekend so I went out of town. When I got back
, I found out that the landlords had changed the locks on my apartment
and had been showing it to people all weekend long.

I went to the Rent Board and the Tenant's Union immediately. It was
suggested to me that I could have broken down the door of my place and
seized possession of my apartment but I chose not to. I figured that
if I were to do that the landlords would eventually get me with the
OMI eviction since they had mentioned that they wanted to move in at
some point. They gave me no eviction notice and promised that they
would not pull any funny business during Labor Day weekend. The only
reason why I let then "clean and repair" my place was because it
needed it and the tenants downstairs had done that with no problems.

I am appalled at what has been going on lately. Landlords are out of
control! They realize that San Francisco is a highly desirably place
to live and know that they if they seize the opportunity they could
make a fortune charging unreasonable rents. I am having a terrible
time trying to find a decent place for a decent price. It so
ridiculous that I keep on hearing about situations like yours and
mine. Everyday on the bus, at work, in the Guardian and on Craig's
list I hear about malicious landlords abusing the OMI eviction.

Keep me informed on any group action that you might do in the future.
I'm more than willing to help out in any way.

Good luck.

Sincerely,

Lisa
